Debarkation was quicker than ever and I carried all my luggage off myself. I literally never stopped walking from the time I scanned my card to get off the ship until I was outside the terminal. The new machines that scan your face for customs have really eliminated most lines when getting off the ship. Following its launch, Disney Treasure will embark on week-long cruises to both the Eastern and Western Caribbean, departing from Port Canaveral. In its first year, Utopia is set to specialize in short three and four-day cruises from its Port Canaveral base. With a tonnage of 250,800 and a capacity of up to 10,000 passengers and crew, it surpasses the current record holder, Wonder of the Seas, in size and capacity.
Set Sail in Style on These 10 New Cruise Ships
“The energy required to chill, ship and regasify the fossil fuel makes it far more carbon-intensive and increases the potential for leakage of dangerous methane,” according to the organization. The ship will be equipped with a special grooming robot that will clean the hull whenever it’s in port to help reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency by 3 to 4 percent, reports TTG Media’s Charlotte Cullinan. Cleveland-based freelancer Fran Golden has written several books about Alaska, including 100 Things to Do in Alaska Before You Die and Frommer’s travel guides. Speaking of vibes, if you're looking for a secluded place to drink (as in, not the swim-up pool bar), few will top the Overlook Pods, perched just behind the AquaDome. The mega-ship's food hall wasn't nearly as diverse or exciting as the one on Norwegian Prima. The ship's riff on Broadway-approved "Wizard of Oz" — 16-piece live orchestra and flying bed included — delighted me, a hater of most musicals.
Oceania Cruises’ Vista
There’s a carousel, huge sports bar, a Johnny Rockets, candy store, hot dog stand, and the Aqua Theatre. In May 2024, Cunard Line will introduce Queen Anne, its 249th ship, but its first new vessel in 12 years. Matt started Royal Caribbean Blog in 2010 as a place to share his passion for all things Royal Caribbean with readers. He oversees all the writers at Royal Caribbean Blog, and writes a great deal of content on a daily basis. By then, however, they'll be another Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas, in service, although it's currently unknown where she will sail from.
Costa Smeralda (Costa Cruises)
Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruises will introduce first-in-class vessels, while Cunard is launching its first new ship in over a decade. Disney Cruise Line is also releasing a new ship, sure to be of interest to families. "Every time I see a picture of the Icon of the Seas cruise ship I am filled with an intense dread," one person said. The new ship will soon be ready for use, starting in January 2024, the cruise company says, after hitting a milestone last month with the successful completion of its initial round of sea trials.

The redesigned pool deck also encourages time in the sunny outdoors, or in the shade, in a top-deck bar and in two deep-tank pools linked by sunken seating. At the ship’s aft end, take in spectacular views of the horizon at another swimming spot, the Wakeview Pool. In the elegant three-deck Piazza atrium, sip a latte, enjoy a gelato or savor a glass of wine while people-watching and catching performances by street performers — just as you might in Italy. For a special dinner, check out Bistro Sur La Mer, created by acclaimed French chef Emmanuel Renaut, for pâté or escargot followed by coquilles St. Jacques (scallops) or seared duck. After dinner, extend your evening of fun by heading to the Take Five lounge for live jazz.
Icon of the Seas, once it debuts in 2024, will be the largest cruise ship in the entire world, surpassing the prior largest cruise ship, also from Royal Caribbean, Wonder of the Seas. But enough gushing — what can you expect from this year’s batch of new cruise ships? Disney Treasure will sail seven-night voyages to the Caribbean and the Bahamas out of Port Canaveral.
Icon of the Seas
Symphony of the Seas is the fourth Oasis-class and 25th cruise ship from Royal Caribbean. It is slightly larger than her sister ships that were built earlier, making her the third largest cruise ship. Other new features include a new Asian and sushi restaurant, and a new smoke-free casino with an attached dance club. A previous feature on the cruise line’s ships, the Champagner Treff Champagne bar, gets a new look for better views. Other amenities include a running track, gym, spa, sports court, climbing wall, and one pool. In design and features, Utopia of the Seas will be nearly identical to Royal Caribbean's last new Oasis Class ship, Wonder of the Seas, which debuted in 2022.
The 4 new giants of the cruise ship world – and how you can book them
The giant cruise ship also has a crew capacity of 2,204, and there are a total of 18 decks. In 2019, The Royal Caribbean cruise ship underwent a massive $165 million upgrade, which did not just add new water slides, but also The Ultimate Abyss aft slide, new dining venues, and a refreshed look. The amplification increased the ship’s gross tonnage, and she now overtakes sister ship Allure of the Seas in the list of the world’s top 10 largest cruise ships. MSC World Europa is the second largest cruise ship powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and takes the cruise line into a new era of sustainability, which it’s taking very seriously. The 7th world’s biggest cruise ship features more than 30 different dining venues and a new thrilling 250-foot Drop slide located aft of the ship. Like so many of the new cruise ships on our list, Viking Vela is slated to be its cruise line’s largest cruise ship yet.
Debuted last summer in Europe, the Celebrity Apex, like its sister ship Celebrity Edge, targets couples seeking a stunning and cushy contemporary environment heavy on tech advances. In lieu of step-out balconies, “Infinite Veranda” staterooms become open-air spaces with the simple push of a button (that opens the upper half of a windowed wall). Plenty of family-friendly cruise ships have waterslides, but few have six — or even one that requires a multi-person raft. Following Silversea Cruises’ first Nova-class ship, Silver Nova, Silver Ray gains a spot as one of our most-anticipated new cruise ships for several reasons. While not the largest ship on our list of new cruise ships, or the most anticipated, Mein Schiff 7 from TUI Cruises still offers a lot to love. The ship will offer 15 dining options, including fan-favorite experiences like the afternoon tea.
It now means that Icon of the Seas is the world’s largest cruise ship, overtaking Wonder of the Seas, which is also operated by the same cruise line. The ship’s extra space will allow for extra cabins, but it’s worth noting that the extra space isn’t quite that substantial — not enough that you would notice. All staterooms and suites on Viking Vela offer their own private verandas. New features on this ship are minimal, as Viking Cruises has long attempted to keep its experiences similar across its ships, for guest experience continuity. Accordingly, expect the same decor and design, as well as restaurants and entertainment, that you might’ve already experienced on past Viking cruises. Each and every year, we cover the biggest and best new cruise ships that you can look forward to in the year ahead (and that you can, in some cases, already book for your next cruise!).

This 5,632-passenger ship set sail in the Caribbean last fall with the promise to bring its all-ages North American and international guests closer to the sea via more outdoor space, including six pools. While the kids play in the pirate-themed water park, walk the long promenade that wraps around the 1,100-foot ship, meant to feel like a stroll through a seaside town. Its New York-inspired design includes a 9 1/2-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty in the casino, as well as a three-story Times Square, an entertainment and shopping area, with a 28-foot-high projection of the Manhattan skyline. On this Princess ship, you’ll easily find space to turn to mush (or completely veg out) when looking at the sea. The 3,560-passenger Enchanted Princess has 10 hot tubs, more than on any other Princess ship.
All of them offer dozens of restaurants and bars, Broadway-style entertainment, casinos and lots of deck-top attractions. On November 27, 2023, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas was officially delivered from the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland to Royal Caribbean. This means that the cruise line takes over responsibility for the giant ship, and the vessel officially becomes a part of the fleet.
Even though the ship carries over 6,000 passengers, there are so many public places that you never really feel crowded unless a show was just getting out. The four ships mentioned above aren't the only giant new cruise vessels to debut in the last year or two. Europe-based Costa Cruises and Aida Cruises also have unveiled massive new ships since 2018 that rank among the 10 biggest cruise ships ever built -- Costa Smeralda and AIDAnova.
